Can the way your home looks make your kids happy?

Perhaps it is no coincidence that the great modernist master, Le Corbusier, had no children. How to imagine his skimpy interiors besieged by felt-tip pens, cars and Lego? After all, as Jacques Tati…

The Fishbowl

I had a deep aha moment today. Ever since I was little, I always wondered why I felt so different from everyone around me. Sure I felt like I could relate to adults more than kids my age, but I still saw the world in a different light. I could never understand why everyone limited themselves so much. I remember when I was around seven, I was watching ET Canada with my mom and I saw a celebrity pop up on the screen who was the same age as my mom at the time. I asked her, “How did she manage to get on TV?” Anyways, I was just a little girl wondering how someone the same age as my own mother had managed to get on TV for making movies, while most of the moms I knew worked a normal job. My mom said that she didn’t really know, that being famous is a one in a million opportunity and even if you do become famous, you’ll feel like you’re in a fishbowl with everyone’s eyes constantly on you.

Now looking back on this conversation, I really wonder if the “average” person realizes that no matter if your a tv star or a teacher, you still have people’s eyes on you. You’re still being judged. Life is still considered “hard”. So why do we feel like we must limit our potential so we do not risk being disappointed if we don’t achieve our dreams? Won’t we still be disappointed with the life we don’t WANT to choose but end up living it anyway because we’re being “realistic?”

You can see where I got my aha moment now right? No matter what CHOICE we make in our life whether it’s as simple as what route we take to the grocery store, or what life path we choose to go down, there will always be positives and negatives to the outcome. It is all based on your own perception if you CHOOSE to look at the positives or the negatives. Why do we choose to be realistic instead of taking a leap of faith for what we truly want in life? Is it not scarier to end up living a life that you hate than not pursuing the one you desire? With one option you are bound to fail, with the other option, there is potential.

Today’s Takeaway: You are the fishbowl
