Creating Realistic Artificial Avatars for Videos

HeyGen is an AI video platform based out of Los Angeles, CA. It allows you to create realistic looking/sounding audio and video from text inputs. Basically, you can give it a script, it’ll read it and make a video.

Here’s my review of the product.

You can try out the product even without creating an account on their website. I liked how it lets users try the product out with almost no friction. Also, if you click “Try it Now”, It loads a sample project that you can edit to get started — very intuitive onboarding.

The audio it generates is one of the most realistic sounding text-to-voice services out there. You can pick from a list of voices with different tone, accent, etc. You’d have to play around with the script a bit to make it sound even more natural. Here’s a sample:

You can also use the built in video editor tools to edit the actual video. You can resize and adjust positions of your avatar, add logos, photos, text and other elements. Here’s a demo:

You can’t view the animation until you submit it. HeyGen says that it depends on the number of users online. You may receive your videos later when too many users are submitting videos at the same time.

I was intrigued by this feature:

HeyGen allows you to create your own avatar. You can send HeyGen high quality videos of you talking in front of a green screen and HeyGen says it can generate an avatar in 5 to 7 days that looks and sounds like you in you videos.

Final Verdict on: HeyGen

Awesome tool. I can totally see myself using an AI avatar like HeyGen to help me build product demos and instructions videos. Will continue to experiment with it. Here’s an example of a video I created on HeyGen:
