Why I Follow You if You Follow Me

It’s not about the follow for follow game

Graphic by Author

At least once a week, I come across comments from other writers saying things like “I don’t do the follow for follow game” or “I don’t follow people just because they follow me”. I always wince when I read these because I don’t necessarily think it’s a game and I don’t want people to think I’m “playing”. Follow for follow, then unfollow is very low behaviour and I have no interest in that game!

When I get notifications saying that someone has followed me, I usually go and follow them back.

I like to practice reciprocity as much as I can. If you want to know why, get ahold of “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer. You won’t regret it! It’s a mammoth book but it’s worth the time. I listened to the audiobook and it got to the point where I would happily volunteer to run errands so that I could listen to it in the car.

Anyway, back to the point.
