Emacs Projectile Library

I recently wanted to have shortcut to my favorite files — all the org files under my ~/org directory. Being not familiar enough with Emacs to write my own file chooser library, I Googled for help and found the projectile library.

The projectile library allows you define a “project”

Then you can list files in your project, grep through them, etc., It does more than I what I needed, but is good enough.

I did have to configure it for my own use. For one, I had to exclude a large git repo, as projectile will add any git repo Emacs encounters by default:

One pleasant part of my experience was reading the source code for projectile to understand how to configure it. Perhaps I am a bit more fluent with Emacs now, but it was pretty easy to get what I needed from reading the source.

I also, by happenstance, learned that one of my coworkers at ZipRecruiter is an Emacs contributor

I am in good company!
