Most of us struggle with weight issues today. With the kind of lifestyle we lead and the food culture we are growing up with, it is very easy to put on weight. We are increasingly getting addicted to electronic gadgets and it is common to spend hours watching TV, working or playing games on the computer, tweeting friends, checking and updating our
facebook or orkut profiles, texting on the phone, and soon. While a few decades back we would spend our evenings doing things like playing a sport, meeting friends, walking in the park, now we increasingly stay indoors. There is home delivery for everything so why waste time going out and getting something when you get everything at the mere touch of your fingertips?

Moreover, we love to play around with these gadgets and sometimes even end up getting addicted to them. And doesn’t it make sense to keep up with the fad?

All these habits make us lazy and sedentary, and as

Priya Grover, a 34-year-old working woman,

As we age, the metabolic rate of our bodies slows down and we do not burn up calories as easily as we used to do before, when we were in school or college. There are also certain hormonal changes taking place in the body that make it easier to put on weight and more difficult to lose it as we age.
Another common reason is that in India this is the time when most women get married and then start ignoring their hes. Some get pregnant very soon, and have to deal with the weight gain during pregnancy.

putting on weight. I feel that thin in their teenage years start putting on the first six months after your wedding are really crucial as this is the time when you can either be careless and pile on kilos or be conscious of your weight and save yourself a lot of
worry later on. I feel this is the phase when you need to make an extra effort to stay fit. Putting on weight is easy, but it gets more and more difficult to lose it. I am glad that Priya came to me while she was overweight and before she had turnedo obese Even then, it took her a full year to shed all the extra kilos. But at 35 she was slim and smiling, and looked much younger than she used to, when I had first seen her.
